General Surgeon

Jared B Smith MDDr. Smith grew up in Columbia, Missouri and Jefferson City, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri, Columbia and his Medical Degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, where he was awarded the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year award as a Chief Resident.

Dr. Smith enjoys listening carefully to each patient, learning what is important to them, and tailoring the surgical care plan to each individual. Dr. Smith’s special clinical interests include caring for patients with gallbladder disease, inguinal hernias, ventral hernias and incisional hernias (including large hernias requiring abdominal wall reconstruction), hiatal hernias and paraesophageal hernias, colon cancers and diverticulitis. He has performed thousands of minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic da Vinci or robotic surgery approaches.

Dr. Smith has served as Trauma Director and Chair of Surgery at Centerpoint Medical Center. He has been honored as a Top Doctor by 417 Magazine, 435 Magazine, Kansas City Magazine and Ingram’s Magazine. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoyed practicing sports with his children in the back yard, and now enjoys watching them play in their college games. He also enjoys trail walking his dogs with his wife, cooking and running.
